Syed Nazim Shah's new publications advance research on battery-free medical implants and IoMT Nodes

Syed Nazim Shah has recently published two scientific papers as first author. This work is part of his PhD research within the Optical communications and electronic applications group of the Public University of Navarra (UPNA), under the supervision of Prof. Miguel A. G. Laso.

The publications detail the design and evaluation of miniature antenna systems for biomedical applications, specifically targeting wireless power transfer and communication for implantable devices.

1. Self-Triplexing Implantable Antenna Integrated with a Rectifier for Simultaneous Transcranial Wireless Power Transfer and Dual-Band Biotelemetry: https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/11603810

Published in the IEEE Open Journal of Antennas and Propagation, this work combines a compact implantable antenna with an RF-to-DC rectifier, enabling efficient wireless power transfer directly through the skull alongside dual-band biotelemetry, supporting the development of battery-free implantable medical devices.

This publication is the result of collaboration with researchers at the Tampere Electronics Research Centre (Finland) during Nazim’s international research stay with Prof. Toni Björninen's group.

2. Compact Dual-Port Nested Co-Aperture Implantable Antenna for Multi-Band Biomedical IoMT Nodes: https://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/11703566

Accepted for publication in the IEEE Internet of Things Journal, this paper presents a miniature antenna supporting simultaneous wireless power reception, multiband telemetry, and communication between implants, with strong potential for applications in capsule endoscopy and cardiac monitoring.

Both advances reflect enriching international collaboration, as they involve researchers from Finland, South Korea or Pakistan, what undoubtedly contribute to foster his PhD academic journey. Keep doing so great, Nazim!!
