Junaid Ahmed Uqaili secures prestiguous EuMA Award and completes a research stay at KTH in Sweden

WIT doctoral researcher at the Antenna group of the UPNA, Junaid Ahmed Uqaili, has successfully completed a productive three-month research stay at the KTH Royal Institute of Techonology in Stockholm, Sweden. During his stay, welcomed by Prof. Oscar Quevedo-Teruel at KTH’s pioneering Antenna Group, Junaid worked on “Design and Analysis of Reconfigurable Feeding Networks for Antennas” and produced encouraging results.

A major highlight of this milestone was winning the prestigious EuMA Internship Award 2026 from the European Microwave Association (EuMA), a competitive recognition that complemented the core funding provided by the WIT program.

His mobility also included key academic milestones. Early in June, he attended the ESOA Course 2026 – Metalenses for Antenna Applications at KTH. And in July, he traveled back to Spain to present his work at the 2026 IEEE MTT-S International Conference (NEMO) in Valencia. As expected, Junaid received valuable feedback and insights to boost his work, while also catching up with colleagues and mentors from UPNA, which made this event truly special.

Junaid expressed his deep gratitude to his PhD supervisor, Prof. Miguel Beruete, and to David Osuna Ruiz for making this opportunity possible. He also extended special thanks to Dayan Pérez Quintana, who has been a continuous source of support both in Pamplona and Sweden, offering exceptional mentorship and friendship to Junaid and his family. Finally, he thanked the entire KTH team for their warm hospitality.

Beyond the research, this journey provided an invaluable life experience for Junaid and his family. The advanced knowledge and international collaboration gained now provide a strong foundation and great motivation as he returns to Pamplona to continue advancing his PhD thesis with excellent prospects.

Keep going, Junaid! You are doing really great!!
